Sometimes my characters are smarter than I am!!

I’ve been frantically trying to write a story that will be included in a Novella that will release in February. It shouldn’t be this hard!! I’m loving the story, and loving my characters. And in case you think that an odd statement…I have had characters I really didn’t care for at all. Only other writers will understand.

So why is it so hard? Well, for one thing…it’s a short story, and I’m wordy!!  And in addition to trying to fit a ‘novel’ idea into 20,000 words, I’m trying to fit my very limited time schedule (deadline November 1) around all the other activities I don’t want to miss.

Yesterday, two of my characters were arguing:

He gripped her shoulder. “Maggie, please…

She slapped him away. “Don’t you Maggie please me, Luke. You were the one who told me that no one person could be expected to be in two places at once. Remember?

See what I mean? That’s exactly what I was trying to do…write, and not miss another thing. When the wheels on the bus go ’round and ’round, I want to be in the bus!!  And when the first serve of the volleyball is at 6:30—two-plus hours away— I want to be in the stands watching, munching on concession stand popcorn.

I’m 8,000 words short of my goal. I MUST get them written this week in order to run the story past my critique partners and have time to rewrite or correct mistakes, etc.. So I’m taking Luke’s advice and will KBIC until this story is written and submitted. And I’ll pop my own corn!

All prayers appreciated!!
